It does get a bit frustrating some times with non-engineers or engineers from other disciplines fancying themselves as amateur mechanical engineers and trying to tell me how to do my job because they know better. I think Dermot Bannon, the Architect from the telly said it best on his dublinlive.ie interview recently when he said that: people don’t say to a doctor “Well, if you’re going to do that knee operation I’d start down here and I’d get rid of that bone first”, but everyone has an opinion on my job. I suppose you just have to deal with and try to explain things as best you can….

The worst part of engineering for me is the documentation. Whenever you make anything or plan to make anything you have to make sure that you have documented the process very well so that you and other people can read it to see what was done. It’s very important but it’s not as much fun as actually making things and it can take a long time. But if you can do it well it’s one of the best skills to have.
